Tragedy That Took Place In Our Community

"Give good news to those who are patient, especially when faced with a disaster, they say, "Surely to Allah we belong and to Him we will return.”

They are the ones who will receive Allah’s blessings and mercy. And it is they who are rightly guided."

Last night, our community suffered an immense tragedy. A Muslim family, out for a walk on a beautiful summer evening, was run down by a car driven by a man who was filled with hate.

One member of our community remains in hospital.

The horror that visited this family, the Canadian Muslim community, and Canada at large last night is insurmountable.

These were innocent lives that were taken simply because they are Muslim.

Every Londoner, every Ontarian, and every Canadian must stop and ask ourselves what we need to do to make sure that this never happens again. The Muslims, racialized people, and immigrants of London, Ontario have just as much of a right to go for a walk outdoors as anyone else in this city.

We will stand strong against Islamophobia, racism, and xenophobia, and we will stand strong against hate.

We will survive this test through faith, love, our unshakeable belief in God, and a firm commitment to the pursuit of justice. Make no mistake, justice will prevail.

We ask in this time that we respect the privacy of the family, and that we let the London Police do their jobs. We want to thank the London Police and Mayor Holder for their assistance during this difficult time.

Vigil

Canada and especially London, Ontario is devastated in the aftermath of a hate attack that led to the deaths of four Muslims from the same family, and the hospitalization of a nine year old boy. In honour of those killed in this horrifying act of violence and to provide a space to collectively grieve, there will be a vigil held at the London Muslim Mosque parking lot at 7 PM today, Tuesday, June 8.
